Des Cartiers is the easiest way into the island’s rainforest: a mostly level, well-maintained loop starting from the Forestry station above Micoud. Giant chatannier and gommier trees, tree ferns and bromeliads line the path, and early mornings give the best chance of spotting the endemic Saint Lucia parrot (the jacquot), as well as orioles and hummingbirds.
A Forestry guide and small fee are required; allow 2 hours.
