Once a real island and now joined to the mainland by a causeway, Pigeon Island is managed by the Saint Lucia National Trust. Climb to Fort Rodney for the view over Rodney Bay, or push on to Signal Peak, the higher of the two hills. Along the way you pass 18th-century barracks, gun batteries and a small museum telling the story of Admiral Rodney and the Battle of the Saintes.
There are two calm beaches, a restaurant and plenty of shade, so it works equally well as a half-day history stop or a lazy beach day. Big concerts and the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival take place on the lawns here.
