Off the south coast near Vieux Fort, Maria Major and Maria Minor are a Saint Lucia National Trust reserve that shelters endemic species such as the Saint Lucia whiptail lizard and the harmless kouwès snake, one of the world’s rarest. Visits are by guided boat trip only and are seasonal, typically outside the bird-nesting months.
The nearby Anse de Sables beach, the lighthouse at Moule-à-Chique and the interpretation centre make this a rewarding half day in the south.
